HISTORY OF BARANGAY ANAO
Anao is an upland barangay in Ginatilan. It is 8 kilometers away from the town. It is bounded by Barangay Labrador Malabuyoc, Cebu in north, and Barangay Salamanca in east, Barangay Campisong in west and Barangay Cagsing in south. Most of the economic livelihood is farming.
Anao is believed to have been established during the latter part of the Spanish regime. The name ANAO is said to have originated from the plant
“ANAHAW” or the footstool palm. It is a round leaf fountain palm; where in the barangay has lots of Anahaw during that time. Therefore, the Spanish named the Barangay as barangay Anahaw.
During the American Regime, Americans changed the name of the barangay. Since Anahaw is a plant and the area has lots of the said plant. They named it as Barangay Anao instead of Barangay Anahaw.
